          "Cairn Terrier Sets"

The Cairn Terrier, the Scottish Terrier and the West Highland White were developed from the same stock, originating in the islands and highlands of western Scotland. The Cairn was seperated from the rest in 1909. Size:
          Males: 10 inches
          Females: 9 1/2 inches

          Weight:
          Males: 14 lbs.
          Females: 13 lbs.

          Colors:
May be of any color except white. Dark ears, muzzle and tail tip are desirable.

          Coat:
Hard and weather resistant. Must be double coated with profuse harsh outer coat and short soft, close furry undercoat. This coat requires regular plucking and grooming. If done by a professional, can become quite costly. If groomed regularly, this coat will not shed.

          Temperament:
          Lively, energetic.
Are not usually trustworthy off lead.
Can be destructive if not properly trained.
          Usually very vocal.
          Usually good as guard dogs.
Can be trusted with small children that they are raised with.
          Usually not difficult to housebreak.
          Not good with other animals.

          Reception to Training:
          Can be stubborn and resistant.

          Energy Level:
          high

          Health Problems:
          Epilepsy, PRA, cataracts, allergies.

          Summary:
the Cairn, like all terriers is a very high energy dog. He must be focused or will find destructive ways in which to amuse himself. Because of their stubborn streak, they are not the best choice as a childs companion.

If looking for a Conformation Show dog, this is an excellent choice.
If looking for a Pet/Companion Dog, a fair choice.
If looking for an Obedience Dog, a fair choice.
